    Swim Meet 101

    • What to Bring: Nutrition (sports drink, electrolytes, water, sports gel, etc.), extra towel, folding chair, goggles (extra pair), cap, and swimsuit. Also, cooler + food for after the meet (see SOCIAL below).
    • Kids at meets? Event #1 is a multigen. relay that runs as many legs as we have kids + (grand)parents, so let me know if you're up for this (it doesn't count for points or against your total number of meet entries).
    • Fun relay: It will be a different relay every meet, but it will count for points and as a meet entry.
    • Meet entries: Each swimmer can swim up to 4 individual events + 2 relays, but only 5 total events. It seems like we can't do math, but the flexibility is meant for those times when I can get everyone in 2 relays. When that happens, then you can do an extra (4) individual event. However, I'll try to have everyone in 2 relays, and then you can do 3 individual events
    • Meet length: (alt. title: how many snacks should I bring??) We are hoping to keep meets around 90 minutes. But it will depend on pool size and number of entries.
    • SOCIAL: After the meet, The Floaters are planning on having picnics, either on the deck (Blanchette has tables by the entrance) or nearby (Blanchette has a shelter next door to the pool). We might need to leave the coolers in the car until after the meet. Use this Picnic Sign Up link, so we don't bring the same items. There is a tab at the bottom of the sheet for each meet.

    Meet FAQ

How to sign up? Go to Meet Signup and click the green button for the correct meet.

Do I have to sign up for all of the meets at once? No, you can wait until each meet gets closer to guarantee your availability. Meet entries are due 3 days before the meet. But if you wish go ahead and signup for them all at once.

Which events should I pick? Choose your favorite events! If you're not quite sure, or if you're open to anything, leave some info in the "Notes to coach" section. It will help to balance out the entries if needed. Also, if you enter 4 individual events and I need you for 2 relays, I need to know which individual event you want me to drop, so leave me a note.

Will I be on a relay? I'll try to field as many swimmers as possible on the relays (worth double the points). I will try to group by age (they score as the youngest person on the relay) and by time.

How are meets scored? Know that you will almost always add to our team score (especially if you're over age 50!) and there's zero chance you reduce team points. The top 4 swimmers per team, per age group in each event, can earn points if they place in the top 16 places.

    Individual Scoring: 20-17-16-15-14-13-12-11-9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

    Relay Scoring: 40-34-32-30-28-26-24-22-18-14-12-10-8-6-4-2

    Age Groups (AG): 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, 90-99, 100+

    Relays:

    • All meets begin with a multigenerational exhibition relay that includes kids.
    • 200 Medley relay: Four swimmers each swim 50 yards of one stroke in the order back, breast, fly, and free. AG is based on the youngest swimmer.
    • 100 Fun relay: Four swimmers each swim 25 yards with assigned fun rules.
    • 200 Free relay: Four swimmers each swim 50 yards of freestyle. AG is based on the youngest swimmer.

    Order of Events:

    • Fun generational relay
    • 25s in the order: free, back, breast, fly
    • 100 Individual Medley (IM): fly, back, breast, free
    • 100 Fun relay
    • 50s in the order: free, back, breast, fly
    • 200 Freestyle relay
